The late Christopher Hitchens is one of 18 authors selected for the Orwell Prize for political writing.
A book by the late Christopher Hitchens is leading the field for this year’s Orwell Prize for best political book. Arguably, a collection of essays whose subjects range from the War on Terror to Diana, Princess of Wales, was praised by Nicholas Shakespeare in the Telegraph as displaying the author's characteristic “wit, intelligence and passion”.
This year's shortlists are announced next month and the winners on May 23.

Christopher Hitchens (1949 - 2011) was an Anglo-American author and journalist. His books made him a prominent public intellectual and a staple of talk shows and lecture circuits. He was a columnist and literary critic at Vanity Fair, Slate, The Atlantic, World Affairs, The Nation, Free Inquiry and a variety of other media outlets. He was named one of the world's "Top 100 Public Intellectuals" by Foreign Policy and Britain's Prospect.

well, of cours hitchens would deserve the price, but sadly he died last december and as I'm not a freind of posthumously awarded prizes, someone else should get it
He deserves it. Just wish he could be here to enjoy the honor.
Well, at least it keeps the old bugger around in peoples minds. So, he isn't all THAT dead, at least not yet.
We believe the award should be given to a living author.

Galloway lives and hitchens "deads" huh? Well, good for you fgfm. All you've done is to prove once and for all there is no god. But what a pity there isn't a hell for you and ali akbar galloway to go to.
It's a poor commentary on someone whose life was words and literature, that some of his audience cannot string together a decent sentence. Come on, folks, please follow Christopher's excellent example and think before you write!
