Crappy news, but the fact that this was announced so late (this morning) makes me think it's nothing terribly serious, right? I mean, he's probably just really tired and was waiting til the last minute on the chance he'd feel better in the morning?

I'm crying now, selfishly. I was really, really looking forward to seeing him...
Plus, it's not as though anything else has been cancelled, so it's not as though he has "taken a turn for the worse" as it were...trying to look at this logically.
@tatianalarina, I feel for you and am very sorry you won't see him tonight:( About three weeks ago, I drove circa four hours to see him and stayed overnight...if that had been cancelled I would have been massively disappointed. I should now make a few trite remarks about "well we've just got to be grateful he's taking care of himself and knows his limits, etc." But I'm sure you "get" this. And you still feel disappointed (I would):(

In recent interviews he has said that there are good days and bad days. There's of course no point in debating people if he can't think straight, and defend his views.

:( I was looking forward to attending the lecture as well. I know it was sold out and had a huge waiting list -- I wonder if after Christopher cancelled anyone even showed up!
According to the Jewish Center "a medical situation prevented CH from joining.."
I wouldn't have expected Hitchens to be able to make all of his public appearances (it's actually impressive that he has made the ones he's already done). But, it's still pretty disappointing to see it happen.
He finished his chemo several weeks ago.
I am sitting in a NYC wine bar at the moment, having flown to the city just to see Christopher. It is a serious understatement to say that I am dissappointed, but of course, there is no one to blame, and my main concern is for Christopher's health. Still, this is one expensive glass of wine.
Hitchens deserves credit for still being out there, as brilliant as ever I might add. Most others would behave differently I think, if faced with the burden of stage 4 cancer. Hats off to Hitch for being so courageous.
Barry, I flew in from Chicago and can relate. The drinks were good, but not $150/ea good. Am going to make a good weekend out of it anyway.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he would have made it if he could have.
