Watched this on C-SPAN. (First time I can ever say I've watched C-SPAN.) Hitchens DESTROYED Berlinski. The guy totally copped out TWICE on the question about whether he'd rather see Europe be secular or Islamic!
Thank 'Ghord' for Atheism! Atheism presents the only available life-raft of logical thought in the Tsunami of religious sh*t that the World is currently endurring!
WOW. Hitch on fire.
Hitch slap!...hey, how can I rip this video off the site? Email me: hitchensdebates at g mail dot com
Why not buy the DVD from C-SPAN, cheapskate?
Or better yet, order it from Larry Taunton at Fixedpoint. It will be out in November. That way, they can keep providing these fabulous debates. Larry is also a very very nice guy.
Berlinski is a slimeball for dodging the Islamic or Secular Europe question. He is an elitist who only argues that "belief in belief" is a good thing, and that Plato's "noble lie" is necessary for the good of society.
Bravo, Hitch. You'll be fighting till the last.
I'm a Hitchens fan, but I don't think Berlinski was inconsistent or cowardly in "dodging" the Islam vs. Secular Europe question.
His answers were perfectly in keeping with an agnostic viewpoint, asserting nothing. You might fairly argue that the outlook makes for a lame debate, but I certainly wouldn't expect him to bend any more backwards to represent the theism case than he did.
In some regards, I think the question was an unfair one to pose to an agnostic arguing for theism; it attempts to ambush the answerer with an either/or position that can be attacked no matter which way he goes.
Love the cackling woman in the beginning...
Wow! That Berlinski is a bit erm... dry isn't he? I was almost falling asleep.
And yeah I did like that woman who suddenly starts laughing when Berlinski is thanking the host for his hospitality. Maybe she thought he was being sarcastic.
Beflinski's had nothing to say in support of his book "how atheism poison's everything". He made no argument on his side. Im not sure what side he even stands on. He was basically fence sitting.
