William Dembski Debates Christopher Hitchens

November 22, 2010

William Dembski debated CH at the Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, Nov 18, 2010.
As some of you have noticed, the debate was uploaded on YouTube but is now removed. I've spent some time trying to download it myself but have managed to save only parts of the debate. I'll try again at a later date. There's no point uploading it on YT at the moment so watch it here (pcawebcast.com).

Just foreplay before Blair, surely?

a perfect hitchslap to the slimey limey Vascillator would live-on beyond us all.

Dembski committed a mortal sin in Hitchens' eye: he was very boring. Aside from the Q&A, he nearly exclusively spoke from typed notes and prepared materials.

During Dembski's opening statement, I couldn't help but think "This dude has no idea how much he's going to get distroyed"

At the very end of the video the smarmy pastor ends his farewell by making everyone pray together (the nerve!!), but Hitch is out of shot. Can we speculate on what he did to fill up the time?

It seems they took the debate down due to high traffic load. Any chance of hosting this elsewhere, or put up as a torrent?

Re: "Smarmy" comment

The debate was held at a church, sponsored by a church, with the stated goal of educating the students of the Christian academy. Why should you be surprised, or put off, by a Christian prayer being led?

I attended the debate, and I was a bit disappointed with some of the Hitchens fans, impolitely interrupting at times to applause pejoratively at Dembski. Hitchens is a master of his craft. He doesn't need the audience's help.

Re Smarmy. The point is they listen for over an hour to Hitch telling them why he opposes religion and the notion of a god, and then his hosts turn round and say -- thanks, but I we are all going to pray now and you'll just have stand there. Very rude.

C'mon, it wasn't rude. What did you expect from the Centre of Mindless Indoctrination - that they would suddenly stop professing their beliefs because some bald old man told them his story?

For us, Dembski's speeches were not only boring, but obviously flawed and purposely confusing. It didn't shake Dembski's faith, did it? All they need is a prayer and a lesson about how Evolution is fishy and they're back on track.

I have been in the position of a after dinenr speaker addressing business audiences in the southern US and had to suffer the tiresome ritual of an 'Invocation'. No-one among my hosts ever asked me if I would mind a post-prandial, pre-speech attempt by those assembled to invoke a supernatural being and invite it to express its approval for what what i was about to say...

"Mary Carl Finkelstein, special assignments coordinator at Prestonwood Christian Academy and organizer of the debate, told The Christian Post that over 5,000 viewers accessed the online videos Monday morning, causing the school to search for a different server to better host the videos."
