Does Kate Middleton really want to marry into a family like this?
By Christopher Hitchens
"A hereditary monarch, observed Thomas Paine, is as absurd a proposition as a hereditary doctor or mathematician. But try pointing this out when everybody is seemingly moist with excitement about the cake plans and gown schemes of the constitutional absurdity's designated mother-to-be."

I really couldn't give a toss about the royal wedding. It's all so irrelevant. A chance for the Church of England to get some free publicity. Let them ride around on bicycles like the Danes. I know it's argued that they're good for tourism. Well, so is the British Museum. Come to think of it, maybe they could be a new exhibit.
